Date your spouse

Finding time to date your spouse

Spoiler alert: Dating your spouse is super important to a happy marriage. Feel like you don’t have time or money? No matter your schedule or budget, you can date your spouse to keep the spark alive.

Fitting it in

It can be TOUGH to find time for a date night. For most of our marriage, we lived a 4 hour drive from Sarah’s mom and a 23 hour plane ride to Clement’s parents. We were living life just the four of us and it was tricky to find time for each other. Here are some ways that we squeezed in fun and romance.

  1. Do your kids play sports? If so – consider squeezing in a quick date, if possible. We’ve snuck away for many a coffee or beer during cheer practice. Even just connecting for that 45 minutes to an hour makes a positive difference in our relationship.
  2. If you’re like us and your family is far away, consider letting your kids stay over for a weekend or longer. Sarah’s mom kindly kept the girls for about a week every year since they were about three. It’s hard to be away from your kids, but the time together strengthened the grandchild/grandparent bond (which we value!) and gave us a chance to spend time just the two of us. It’s not easy, but it is important!
  3. Consider a late night date night. We’re going to confess something to you all…. Every now and again we order late night Taco Bell (THANK YOU Grubhub!). At 10:00 order deliver for cheap tacos and spend that time just

It’s one of the things we repeat all the time, but you can’t put your relationship on hold for an extended time and expect that you’ll be happy together. Make the time to date your spouse. You’ll be glad you did!
